The Böker Plus Appalachian axes have an ax head in Rhenish form made of carbon steel 1055. This choice represents an above-average high carbon content and material standard even for quality axes. The universally designed blade strength is equally suitable for felling and splitting. The lower tip (heel) of the 10.7 cm long blade can be used as a turning nose for pieces of wood. The material is protected against rust by a protective varnish. The versatile weight of 600 g was chosen for the heads of both axes. For the handles, the best American hickory with long fibers is used, which is far superior to European ash in terms of breaking elasticity and shock load tolerance. The handles are double wedged with a wooden wedge and steel sleeve. The two models Appalachian Big and Appalachian Small differ in the length of the ax handles. With a 36 cm handle made from the best American hickory wood, this is the shorter of the two axes. Due to its handy size, this ax is better suited for transport in or for attachment to a backpack. The shorter handle is particularly suitable for longer, tireless work with one hand, such as when chopping (kindling) wood for cooking fires. The older term kitchen cleaver for axes of this class comes from the time when stoves in the house were still fired with wood. Delivery without leather sheath.
